Thanks for the info

Thanks for the contributions to Protecting small inventors myth. There are quite a few things I disagree with, or that I think would be great but are unfortunately unlikely to happen, but I do see that you've highlighted two issues which aren't yet developed anywhere on this wiki: when others have patents, it can be useful to have your own patents; and some venture capitalists ask for patents.

The presentation you linked to is interesting too, but the content is riddled with errors. For example, he asks how a software company could get funding without patents? Terrible naivety - Microsoft went from zero to DOS to Windows 95 without patents. They only started applying for and using patens *after* they'd become a success. The GNU/Linux operating system too was built without patents. Even Apple showed that patentless development can beat patented development when they ditched their base system and replaced it with the patentless FreeBSD system.

I'll try to write up these points in the coming days (or the coming weeks, given this week's workload). Ciaran 22:45, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I'll reply more thoroughly on Talk:Protecting small inventors myth. Ciaran 00:06, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
