[edit] email yes, online tool no

I emailed the Select Committee secretariat, who confirmed that you can make submissions by email. The online facility is currently unavailable.

[edit] "Manner of manufacture"

From the bill's explanatory note:

The term “manner of manufacture” is carried over from the Patents Act 1953 and has been interpreted by the courts to exclude such things as “products of nature”, mere discoveries, mathematical algorithms, mere schemes or plans, and methods of medical treatment of humans.

This mentions mathematical algorithms. Software is usually not much different from a mathematical algorithm. Could that be used or extended?

[edit] DNA

I'm currently too busy with deadlines and about to leave the country temporarily, but I'm seriously concerned about whether the act addresses the issue of DNA patents? Which, in my opinion is just as important as software, patenting sequences that already exist in life == just wrong.

Also, it might be a way to drum up support from other interested parties.

[edit] foreigner

Can this be done by a foreigner? I ask because this official submission is hard work. So it would be nice to tell if we, who are not citizen of New Zealand, are able to submit.

Me I'm a foreigner, with residency status. But I think anyone can submit. Mine will be going out in a few minutes. Benni B. 06:52, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

[edit] Hearings through

As far as I know, the select committee meetings are over. Just saying. I'll remove the relevant sections from the article.

[edit] who should be getting involved?

Have these been involved? (add to the list or comment on who's there) Ciaran 11:33, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
