Uniloc v. Red Hat and Rackspace (2013, USA)

Uniloc accused Red Hat and Rackspace of infringing one their patents, US5,892,697, but the case was dismissed at the first (hearing?) because, in the judge's words "is a mathematical formula that is unpatentable under Section 101."

This case is significant because the judge ruled that the patented idea was not patentable subject matter (USC section 101).

This positive outcome was particularly surprising because it came from the notoriously patent-friendly court of the East Texas district.
