Latvia is country in eastern Europe which has become a member of the European Union and the Schengen area, and has signed the European Patent Convention.
Legal system
Latvia is part of European Union legal system. All laws, including business law, commerce, authorship and patent law, and regulations follow one united policy of European Union, although they have to be ratified by local government.
Software patent voting
In the EU software patents directive, in most cases Latvia abstained from voting in favour, and at the end Latvia voted for rejection of the directive in 2005.
