Florian Mueller on software patents

Revision as of 13:13, 30 October 2011 by Ciaran (talk | contribs) (In October 2011, Mueller annouced that he'd accepted a one-year contrat to work for Microsoft.<ref>http://fosspatents.blogspot.com/2011/10/study-on-worldwide-use-of-frand.html</ref>)

Florian Mueller lobbied against software patents in 2004 and 2005 in Europe during the EU software patents directive. Some of his policies have, however, also drawn heavy critiscism from anti-software-patent campaigners.

He built the well-known campaign site NoSoftwarePatents.org (which he later handed to FFII). Mueller's anti-swpat lobbying work earned him various awards.[reference needed]

After the directive was cancelled, Mueller published his account of the overall campaign in the book No Lobbyists As Such.

In 2010, Mueller returned with a blog, "FOSS Patents", discussing software patents and other topics.

In October 2011, Mueller annouced that he'd accepted a one-year contrat to work for Microsoft.[1]

Mueller posts regularly (username FlorianMueller) to community forums such as Slashdot[2] and LWN.net.
