Florian Mueller lobbied against software patents in 2004 and 2005 in Europe during the EU software patents directive. Some of his policies have, however, also drawn heavy critiscism from anti-software-patent campaigners.

He built the well-known campaign site NoSoftwarePatents.org (which he later handed to FFII). Mueller's anti-swpat lobbying work earned him various awards.[reference needed]
