Ben Klemens was previously Executive Director of End Software Patents (ESP). He had previously published a book about software patents in 2005, Math You Can't Use.

During his time in ESP, Klemens published a paper on the economic harm of software patents, 2008 State of Software Patents, and filed an amicus brief at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit for the 2008 in re Bilski case, among other things.
