User talk:The Mad Hatter

Organising material

Hi. I've moved some of the new sections you wrote to other articles. For example, in Should the whole patent system be axed, you wrote a long section about the criteria for patentability in the USA. That information is useful for many contexts, not just for the context of arguing for axing the whole patent system, so it makes more sense to put that in an article that can be shared by other articles. I've moved the text to USA for now, but it should really be put in either Legislation in the USA or Patent office practice in the USA, depending on which of those two bodies defines patentability in the USA.

I've also moved the text about "hardware manufacturing" out of the Why focus only on software and into Should the whole patent system be axed. That text is an argument for *not* focussing on software, so it doesn't make much sense in the "focus on software" article.

Wikis should avoid, as much as possible, repeating the same text. If something has to be said in multiple places, then it's best to write it once in its own article and just link to it from those multiple places. This avoids the wiki contradicting itself and it means the editing resources can be combined to make one great article about whatever topic instead of six mediocre ones. Good. I wasn't sure that was the right place for it. BTW, you need to sign when you post notes like this. The Mad Hatter 21:18, 1 June 2009 (EDT)
