Patent litigation organisations
From en.swpat.org
When patent holders form an organisation to enforce their patents collectively on a field, this could be called a patent cartel.
There also exists "nice" patent collectivities, who's aim is to reduce patent aggression. These are usually called defensive patent pools.
[edit] Examples
- MPEG-LA: the cartel formed around a thicket of MPEG video formats
- Sipro: G.729, G.722, and G.723.1
Allied Security Trust has been called a cartel in a few articles, but without any aggressive behaviour the name doesn't fit.
