Category talk:Countries and regions

Redundancy

Most specific subcategory

I find it unnecessary to add the "Countries and regions" category to an article about a country or region, when there is also a separate subcategory for that same country or region. For instance, the article on Sweden has been placed in Category:Countries and regions as well as in Category:Sweden, and the latter category is in turn a subcategory of Category:Countries and regions.

It also clutters up the category page itself, when each country or region is effectively found twice on it, once in the "Subcategories" section and once in the "Pages" section, leading to confusion over which link to follow.

I suggest that each page be placed in the most specific subcategories available, possibly several of them which may partially overlap each other, but not in a broader category which includes a more specific one in its entirety.

I prefer a consistent style across the site over everything else though, and there may be objections against my suggestion which I haven't considered, so I won't implement it unless there is a clear consensus for this change. SM5POR 17:31, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Ok, let's give it a try.
We originally thought that an category with links to all the "top-level" country pages would be convenient for users, but the Countries article provides that convenience now. Ciaran 22:08, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
